Pontoon boats are a great way for you and your friends to get out on the lake for the weekend! We are always working to improve our abilities to accommodate metal boats in a line filled mostly with fiberglass.
Here are the three suggestions we have for our pontoon friends @ Marker 21
INDIVIDUAL BOAT PARKING
New to boating? Unsure about what to do with your pontoon boat when you come to Gay Cove? We reserve spaces to the rear of the cove for easy individual parking of your boat, and a quick swim over to the lineup. This is a great option if you are nervous about other people being around your boat, have friends or family that may only want to enjoy the sounds and scenery from afar, or are simply new to joining us at Marker 21!
To park in this area, be sure you have an anchor available to you. Often times with rental boats the anchor that is included may only have 20-30 feet of rope. The Cove gradually gets shallower the further you go back into it. If your rope is shorter, we suggest parking closer to the shore, keeping on the watch for any sticks or rocks that may be sticking out of the ground.
Another reason we suggest anchoring to the rear of the line is that this provides an extra layer of protection from the wake created by the over 10 million visitors that visit Lanier every year.
STERN TO STERN
We sometimes do not have any boats to the rear of our line. The rear line helps to add strength and security to the front line-up, especially on windy or busy days. This year we are working to form a pontoon stern line. When joining any line-up, please ensure your boat is properly equipped with lines, fenders, and an anchor. If you do not have the proper gear, we always welcome you to park your boat in our individual boating area and swim on over!
IN THE LINE-UP
Some of our regular members keep large fenders for tying up metal boats to fiberglass boats. These large cylindrical fenders help add extra space required between the two boat shapes to maintain stability and safety for everyone’s property. If you are interested in tying up to the line-up, make your intentions known to see if it is possible to accommodate this request.
